Location

Washington is a county seat town in southeast Iowa with a population of about 8,000. It is in the center of a thriving agricultural area and home to many industries which are an important part of the community and economy. The United Presbyterian Home is about 12 blocks east of the downtown square on Iowa Highway 92, offering shops, restaurants, a movie theater & other businesses. The fully accredited Washington County Hospital is located in the city, which includes extensive outpatient surgery department, radiology and rehabilitation services. Additional medical services are available only 30 minutes away in Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa and its medical school, hospitals and clinics.

Washington abounds in churches of many denominations (including an 825-member Presbyterian Church), all of them with open and friendly doors.

An active Senior Citizen’s program is centered at the “largest small-town YMCA in the world” with many and varied services, programs and activities. Subsidized transportation for the elderly is available through the Minibus Service. We are also proud of our beautiful McCleery Community Center which offers the best in plays, musicals, concerts, travelogs and other programs to the city.

Coming from the east off of Highway 218/27: Take the Highway 92 West Exit 7 miles to Washington. The United Presbyterian Home is on the left hand side of the road approximately 1/2 mile west of Wal-Mart.
Coming from the West: Follow Highway 1 and 92 East through Washington to 12th Street.  The United Presbyterian Home will be on your right hand side.
