Construction is almost complete on the United Presbyterian Home’s new addition, the Garrett Health & Wellness Center. This rendering shows the front elevation of the two-story addition on to the South Hall of the current Health Center.

The Garrett Health & Wellness Center includes a two-story building addition on to the south hall of the current Health Center. The addition includes 17 private rooms on the first floor and the lower leve is our Wellness Center which features a pool, fitness center, walking track and therapy area.  Coming in January 2018 the Wellness Center will be opening to adults over the age of 55 years old in the community to purchase memberships.

First Floor Highlights:

The first floor of the new building will be a household for short-term stay such as respite, rehabilitation and hospice. This space will create 17 new private rooms for residents which allows for future conversion of existing spaces into mostly private resident rooms. A dementia-specific area will be created in the existing Health Center to create a safe, comfortable, optimal home for residents with these specific needs.

Neighborhoods define community. The design of resident and family areas will be created in a neighborhood or household concept. This concept encourages companionship and sociability among residents with a home-like, warm, person-centered environment and lifestyle. Residents have an increased ability to make their own choices and remain in control of their lives. Daily living activities, even as basic as dining options, can be more spontaneous, varied and readily available. Until recently, all the available space throughout the building has been utilized as well as possible. Now in order to continue the excellence and quality in services you’ve come to expect, to implement potential new ideas and to continue to lead the way, there is a need to create, add, renovate and expand.

First Floor Plan

Lower Level Highlights:

The lower level of the addition will have a first-class Wellness Center complete with an indoor walking track, an 8 -10 person warm water therapy pool with locker room area, group exercise classes, personal training, therapy services and more. Best of all, these spaces and services will be opened not just to UP Home residents, but to all adults over the age of 55. The current mission of our Wellness and Fitness Department is to help residents with personal wellness, but the UP Home wants to extend that mission to the outlying community.
